Ways to start in HTM
Internships and externships give students in biomedical equipment technology and engineering programs supervised, real-world experience in a biomed shop, and many programs require one to graduate. Apprenticeships combine paid work with structured training so you can earn while you learn. For transitioning service members, DoD SkillBridge programs offer civilian internships with HTM employers during the final months of military service.
What you’ll do
Expect to shadow and assist technicians with preventive maintenance, safety testing, equipment inspections and basic repairs, while learning to document work in a CMMS and to communicate with clinical staff. Strong performers are often considered for BMET I roles when they finish.
Who should apply
Students in biomedical equipment technology, electronics or engineering programs, recent graduates, career changers and transitioning service members are all good fits. Create your HTM Jobs profile so employers in our Talent Network can find you, and browse BMET jobs for your next step.
