What a BMET II does
BMET IIs work with less supervision than entry-level technicians. Along with preventive maintenance and safety testing, they diagnose and repair failures down to the board or component level, support a wider range of devices (often including respiratory, dialysis and telemetry equipment, depending on the facility), and serve as a go-to resource for nurses and clinical staff. Many also inspect newly purchased equipment, follow up on recalls and alerts, and keep documentation ready for accreditation surveys.
Typical qualifications
Most BMET II positions call for an associate degree or military training plus a few years of hands-on biomedical experience. Employers expect confident use of test equipment, comfort working from service manuals on your own, and familiarity with a CMMS. The AAMI CBET certification is a strong signal at this level.
Next steps
From BMET II, technicians often move into BMET III or lead technician roles, or specialize as imaging engineers. See all BMET jobs.
