What a BMET III does
A BMET III is the senior technical resource in many biomed shops. Typical responsibilities include servicing complex and specialty systems such as anesthesia machines, ventilators, lab analyzers, dialysis equipment and surgical devices; leading difficult troubleshooting; supporting equipment planning and installations; and mentoring BMET I and II technicians. Senior techs often act as the department contact for specific vendors or clinical areas.
Typical qualifications
Employers generally expect substantial biomedical experience beyond the BMET II level, manufacturer service training on specialty equipment, and strong communication skills. Certification such as the AAMI CBET is commonly preferred, and the CLES is valued for roles with a lot of laboratory equipment.
