What HTM directors do
Directors set the strategy for a healthcare technology program. They lead managers and teams across one or many sites, own operating and capital budgets, negotiate service and vendor agreements, guide equipment planning and replacement, and report on performance and risk to senior leadership. Increasingly, directors also oversee medical device cybersecurity and integration with clinical IT systems.
Typical qualifications
Director roles usually call for significant HTM leadership experience, a bachelor’s degree (often in engineering, technology or business), and strong financial and communication skills. Credentials such as the AAMI CHTM or the Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) are often valued.
